Protect our data and work safely from home?
4 panelists of the conference on Cybersecurity & Covid 19 explain how to do it!

Thanks to the video introduction by Riccardo Galardi CEO GALARDI MEDIA NETWORK we have understood that our data travels on millions of optical fibers every day and many satellites in low orbit will soon become part of our daily life thanks to the SPACEX starlink project.

But it is Aniello Pollio, ITHUB director, who opens up the opportunities of the future by presenting us with the problem of cybersecurity as an opportunity that creates jobs and develops new skills and specialized professions of the digital age: Not just cybercrime with an expected damage in the 6 trillion of dollars in 2021, but we expect an economic return of over 300 billion dollars from the network and the it security industry by 2024. With numbers always growing.

What do we do with all this technology? here is where Federico Fiorentini, Director of Iot Domus, leader in the sector of the creation of shops and franchising chains dedicated to the iot world, is brought into play.

The scenario is clear: without a technical guide or a specialist we are left drowning in the thousands of devices that can be found in the internet markets. The problem is more serious than it seems, and it is here that iot domus makes the difference, that is to recommend, sell and install the best iot products (security cameras, home automation systems, access control systems etc.) at home or in the office thanks to a team of trained and trained people with the guarantee that everything is done in a workmanlike manner and that our data is safe.

And here is Alex Martucci, CEO of Curlad, connected directly from his Tesla, takes us into the minds of data, and how they are used to improve our lives and make things easier for us.
From the use of our simple daily technological gadgets (fitbit, iwatch, smartphone, car, fridge etc ..) the aggregation and analysis of data on the net is done to give a better experience and an improvement in the quality of our life especially in consumers final. On this level too, new professions are being created and we are increasingly moving towards a connected future.

Riccardo at the end with these 5 slides gave the important tips to work safely from home and make the best use of everyday technologies: from the PC to the internet to our mobile phone to keep in mind for every day.

2nd edition Real Estate Panel of discussion – October 7th 2020

To buy or to rent? This has been one of the main questions addressed in our 2nd edition of the Real Estate Panel of Discussion held last week at Geneva Business School and moderate by Francesco Perrella.

How to understand the real estate market in Geneva? Our panelist Vincent Clapasson showed us very interesting data on economic indicators and construction activity which contributed to the answer.

For example, it should not be a surprise that demand of residences in Geneva, being this city the hub of many international organizations, is historically boosted by strong immigration. Nevertheless, this trend is decreasing since 2015, despite mortgage rates at historic lows, probably because of flattering employment rates since then. On the opposite the offer is increasing, with number of units under construction tripling since 2010.

The trend is still bullish, and our second panelist Philippe Favarger reminded us differences of prices among neighborhoods and showed historical data to support the case that only 17% of properties are owned by private owners nowadays. Tax and laws overcomplicate the situation, as they are issued to avoid big investors to come and speculate in the Geneva market, but seem to not take into consideration private buyers’ needs.

How price is set seems still ambiguous for a potential buyer trying to understand what is behind the value of a building plot of 900sqm vs a single-family house. Nevertheless, it seemed very convenient to buy a property 20 years ago, while the economic burden of engaging in this process nowadays is almost comparable to that of renting.

To you, YEX members, the final choice. And if you need more time to think about that, you might end up having more questions for our experts next year, since we will keep this annual event in our YEX calendar thanks to you and your constant attendance – in full safety despite COVID-19.

Everything you wanted to know but never dared to ask about plastic

A great start of the year with many attendees for our seminar “Everything you wanted to know but never dared to ask about plastic” at UNIGE!
Our speaker, Pierandrea Quarta, Founder and CEO of Rebo, gave us numbers and tangible examples of something each of us, as YEX and human being, are aware and responsible: plastic re usage, reduction and recycling.

The dichotomy of plastic is clear: a material which is beautiful, colorful, light, cheap, easy to work with, but which can create more damages than benefits it represents if not used in the right way…or better, if not wasted in the right way. The message the speaker gave us was indeed clear: plastic is not wrong, the problem is our single-use behavior, our way to handle and dispose this material.

Despite the full audience was aware of the climate impact, the speakers disclosed impressive numbers which will resonate for a while in YEX community: 1 Mio of plastic bottles used per minute, of which only 90K recycled, with the remaining ones ending up in the ground, burned or in the ocean, where they last up to 450 years.

The problem cannot be ignored if we think that every time time we eat fish, we eat a plastic portion, which derives from OUR misbehavior of handling plastic. And the food chain is not complete…from the sea, it has been demonstrated that the same plastic portion ends up in the atmosphere, so to the rain, then to the mountains and their rivers and finally in branded plastic bottles we purchase every day.
In summary, we eat or drink the equivalent of a credit card every week. The 2050 forecast sees ocean populated by plastic, 3 times in volume than fish.

Is this enough to make our generation aware, conscious that an action is needed now? Our speaker has found a way to move from rhetoric to reality: developing and launching on the market a stainless-steel smart bottle, which measures water intake and plastic saving. This empowers the recycling ecosystems around the world, driving responsible economic development in underprivileged communities and reducing the flow of plastic into our oceans.

REUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE: this is the message our speaker left us, with some dramatic images and numbers which for sure will impact the YEX daily lifestyle and in turn our environment.

How to create a wellness effect at work

May the 2nd, 2019: YEX and GBS: Conference & Networking event – “How to create a wellness effect at work”

It has been a pleasure for YEX members to attend the conference “How to create a wellness effect at work” hosted by the Geneva Business School in their classrooms.

Elodie Caucigh, Coach & Founder of Real Life Yoga, explained how much stress can impact our life, and not only the professional one.

A very important topic for YEX attendees, who learnt what is behind our daily stress: a complex balance among the psychological, the emotional and the physical levels.
The speaker also showed and guided the audience into practical examples of stress relief: from the correct breathing and posture, to quick stretching exercises to perform even at our desks…

…Useful tips YEX members will definitely start to apply into their daily routine to stay focused or lower their stress level, depending on the occasion.

Thanks to GBS and YEX members to have co-participated in this insightful event…looking forward the next one!

Nutrition: cognitive performance and beauty

A  special event has been organized by the synergistic cooperation of two CCIG groups, Young Executives (YEX) and International Women (IWG).

The event was sponsored by Food for Health® a family company active in researching, growing and selecting natural products which couple a superior sensorial experience (aroma/taste) with high nutritional value and impact on health.

The conference held at the Coworking Voisins “Nutrition: cognitive performance and beauty”, offered an interesting perspective on food and secrets of healthy lifestyle, relevant to everyone in the room, from curious women to stressed managers.

The secrets of “nutrition for performance” and of beauty were disclosed by the insightful explanation of 2 experts, Dr. Ella Odman , medical micro nutritionist, and Dr. Giovanna Massa Saluzzo , estheticdoctor .
Dr. Odman showed that the food we eat affects our daily life, from working productivity to sleep, from learning difficulties to interpersonal feelings. Young executives are always subjected to new challenges and stress, so it was extremely interesting to understand the science behind nutritional outcomes: lower cortisol to avoid burn out, increase dopamine and noradrenaline to boost concentration and motivation, as well serotonin and melatonin to improve mood and sleep-wake rhythm.

It was interesting (and surprising for many in the audience) to hear the advice of eating proteins in the morning and smart carbs at night, thus following the above-mentioned equilibrium and impacting the corresponding neurotransmitters. Nevertheless, the brain food was exhaustively described by the speaker, and some of the most curios left with a full list of new ideas for their foody moments.
On the opposite, no surprise occurred when Dr. Saluzzo explained that the secret of healthy life is to exercise (and avoid smoking!), to have a proper nutritional plan, and to undergo aesthetic surgery with moderation and tailored for individual needs.
Rejuvenation treatments such as mesotherapy, or botulin injections, are progressing as biotechnologies do, thus providing always new solutions.

The perfect end of the evening was offered by the healthysnacks prepared by Sophie and Fred …and by the sponsor of the evening. Sergio Panzarella, Olive Oil sommelier and founder of Food for Health® , who explained that not all extra virgin olive oils have the same impact on your health because they have different levels of antioxidants. And how that directly correlates with their taste. The concept came to life clearly when the attendees tasted Ólixir, the extra virgin olive oil he produces in Sicily, an organic product, rich in taste and antioxidants.

Once again YEX and IWG have organized a successful event, thanks to which everyone, from scientist to beauty hunters, from stressed managers to sport addicted, will live healthier from tomorrow…or at least will try when they will decide what to eat or what to do to look younger!

Giacomo Miceli: The Business of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Can quantum physics serve the business world? A difficult question YEX tried to answer on February 18 th thanks to another interesting seminar hosted at Geneva Business school.
Giacomo Miceli, Sr Research Scientist at EPFL, has spoken about “The Business of Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, a very actual topic on which all YEX members – from scientists to bankers – were fascinated to hear about.

We learnt how atoms cluster together, but also how machine learning still needs humans and scientists to be their supervisors.
The fear of having computers replacing us seems far away when it comes to ethical decisions – like the ones that a software installed in self-driving cars has to face in dangerous situations. Nevertheless, in terms of data feeding, AI is a sort of beast compared to men, recognizing and elaborating data in picoseconds compared to the “slow” seconds which represent humans’ (normal) reaction time.

And going back to clustering and networks, what humans do in society (like people starting to create a wave in a stadium to support their team) can be reproduced at the atomic level through specific laws, or algorithms.

Machines can do what we do, and how? An interdisciplinary discussion kept YEX members attention high until the end of the presentation, when Giacomo reminded us that “AI will not replace managers, but managers who use AI will replace those who don’t ”.

A great 2019 first event for YEX and its members, thanks to all the attendees and to our guest speaker Giacomo!

Gib Bulloch “The Intrapreneur: Confession of a Corporate Insurgent”

An interesting business discussion was organized by YEX on November the 15th at UniGE, where our guest speaker, Gib Bulloch, has inspired the audience regarding the relationship between business, society and the self.

Gib is an award-winning social intrapreneur who consults, writes and speaks on topics relating to the role of business in society. With over 25 years in the corporate world, he now works with organizations, individuals and teams to develop a sense of responsibility at both a personal and collective level to create meaningful social impact.

The YEX audience shared with Gib his ideas, by believing in “the power of business to change the world and in the power of the individual to change the world of business”. Gib inspired everyone with his personal and professional journey, also well described in his book “The Intrapreneur: Confession of a Corporate Insurgent”

In this book he discloses how much finding your purpose and follow your dreams can feel like losing your mind. Indeed, after many years in one of the most profit driven corporations in the world, he started to ask himself “what can I do to change the current situation?” He succeeded in creating a not-for-profit inside Accenture, but despite prizes and plaudits he lost almost everything, from his job to his health.

A story of courage and determination the one that Gib shared with YEX during his talk, thus inspiring the audience with optimism and with the possibility that each of us can transform the business world, and in turn the whole society.

How many of us will follow Gib’s path and become a social intrapreneur? Hard to say, but each YEX member gained an insightful and different perspective on our role, and left the seminar with the evidence that personal and professional revolutions are possible.

Follow YEX for the next interesting discussions on the business world and professional development in 2019!

YEX Networking Apéro October 2018

Another great networking cocktail organized by the YEX with the Italian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on Wednesday the 24 th of November!!!
We really felt like at home, thanks to the warming welcoming of our host Francesco di Martino at Vicolo39 in Carouge.

We had no time to finish our Apero Spritz magisterially prepared by Gabriele, that Raffaele, Salvatore and Antonio started to spoil us with some delicatessen from the kitchen.

Thanks to this cozy and familiar atmosphere, memories naturally went to apéro moments in Milano. And Fabio Campitelli and Davide Fontanella
reminded us how fast we can reach this fantastic destination in Italy thanks to their new Alitalia flight between Geneva and Linate.

Sofia Abbate, CFO at TVP Solar, confirmed the efficiency of her round trip thanks to this new service…something she would never know without the ICC network!

Thanks to all of you for coming and see you at the next YEX event on Nov 15 th !

Matteo Fedeli
plays the Omobono Stradivari 1730 violin

Where: Eglise Saint-Germain, rue des Granges 13, Genève
Wednesdy, November 30th 2016

The violin of Matteo Fedeli was built by Antonio Stradivari in 1726. The tool presents the fund in two pieces of maple with a golden vein that gives shine and depth to curl. The size of this instrument are generous enough to include this copy in a small circle of five / six violins called “Grand Stradivarius” and produced by Stradivari probably on commission for a few artists whose need was to search for a more spacious sound, sweet and powerful than the models built on the traditional form. Arching of the board and the fund are clear and full as well as important is the height of the bands. The instrument was built a year later than the famous “Da Vinci” with which it shares the beauty of the wood. Restoration work mainly involved the table and the bottom of the violin but fortunately did not affect on the characteristics and tonal sound of the violin. The paint is still present in good quantity, it is gold-orange-brown. The label is original. Over the years the instrument has been certified by prestigious and renowned families of luthiers including Hill & Sons and Lyon & Healy. And ‘it belonged, in the early’ 900, the famous Austrian violinist Fritz Kreisler and Pablo de Sarasate has repeatedly praised the magnificent sound quality.

Free entrance.
